EAA Chapter 297: A Community of Flight, Burgaw NC at Stag Air Park (7NC1)
Welcome to our community of flight. EAA Chapter 297 is a warm, inviting space where aviation enthusiasts of all backgrounds connect and share their passion for the skies. We bring together aspiring pilots and seasoned aviators to exchange knowledge, build lasting friendships, and celebrate the pure joy of aeronautics.
Our journey took flight on January 15, 1968, in the living rooms of ten dedicated founders in Wilmington. From those humble beginnings, Chapter 297 grew steadily, eventually supporting our Columbus County members as they branched out to form their own successful chapter.
Following a decade of growth at Wilmington Airport throughout the 1970s, we reached a defining milestone in 1987 by moving into our permanent facility at Stag Air Park in Burgaw. This beautiful turf airfield has been our cherished home for aviation ever since.
Today, the spirit of Chapter 297 embraces every corner of the sky—from gliders and helicopters to classic fixed-wing aircraft. We invite you to join our flying family at our monthly meetings, held every first Saturday at 10:00 a.m. We always look forward to welcoming new faces and sharing the wonder of flight.
Our seasonal gatherings are a true highlight of the year. Every December, we host a festive holiday reception in our assembly hall—a community potluck where stories are shared over a main meal and drinks provided by the chapter. It’s a wonderful time to gather and celebrate the bonds we’ve built through our shared interest in aviation.
Located at the serene Stag Air Park, we also host three signature fly-in events annually on the second Saturday of February, May, and November. We invite you to join us and discover the quiet thrill of flight with EAA Chapter 297.
